Product Care- Painted Finishes

Painted Finishes

What this finish is:

These pieces are intentionally aged: layered paint, worn edges, “rub-through,” dry brushing, and sometimes a soft waxy or matte topcoat. Because the beauty is in the variation, the goal is gentle cleaning + moisture control, not “scrubbing it new.”

Everyday care

  • Dust gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth (no rough shop rags).
  • For light smudges: use a barely damp cloth with plain water, then immediately dry with a second cloth.
  • Use felt pads under accessories and décor to prevent burnishing (shiny spots) and scratches.

Approved cleaner (when you need more than water)

  • Mix: 1–2 drops mild dish soap in a bowl of warm water.
  • Wipe with a cloth that’s wrung out extremely well (almost dry).
  • Rinse wipe with plain water (again: barely damp).
  • Dry right away.

What to avoid (very important)

  • No abrasive scrubbing, Magic Erasers, scouring pads, or scrubby sponges.
  • No ammonia, vinegar, bleach, or alcohol-based sprays (they can streak, soften, or pull pigment/topcoat).
  • Avoid furniture polishes and oily sprays (they can darken porous paint layers and attract dust).
  • Don’t let water sit (rings/blushing, swelling, lifting).

Heat, moisture, sunlight rules

  • Always use coasters and trivets.
  • Wipe condensation fast (vases, iced drinks).
  • Keep away from heat vents/radiators; swings in humidity can cause checking or lifting.
  • Limit direct sunlight to reduce yellowing/fading.

Quick fixes / touch-up guidance (light-duty)

  • For tiny scuffs: often a soft microfiber buff is enough.
  • If you provide touch-up paint/wax: dab—don’t brush; keep it subtle so it matches the “aged” character.
  • If damage goes to bare wood widely: treat as “character” or schedule a professional touch-up.
