Product Care- Veneer Finishes

Veneer Finishes

What this finish is:

Lacquer forms a smooth film. Semi-gloss shows fingerprints and fine scratches more than matte finishes. Care is mostly about soft cloths, non-abrasive cleaners, and preventing micro-scratches.

Everyday care

  • Dust with a plush microfiber cloth (clean—no grit).
  • For fingerprints: lightly damp microfiber with water, then dry/buff with a second cloth.

Deeper clean

  • Mild soap + water as above (tiny amount of soap).
  • Alternatively, use a pH-neutral, non-ammoniated cleaner labeled safe for lacquer/finished wood.
  • Dry and buff immediately to avoid streaks.

What to avoid (especially for lacquer)

  • No ammonia (common in glass cleaners): can haze lacquer.
  • No alcohol/solvent cleaners: can soften or dull lacquer.
  • No Magic Erasers / abrasive pads: they’ll micro-scratch and dull sheen.
  • Don’t stack items without felt—lacquer “prints” under pressure over time.

Scratch prevention

  • Use felt pads under lamps, bowls, trays, etc.
  • Avoid gritty dusting—if you suspect grit, blow/soft-brush first, then wipe.
  • For writing surfaces: use a desk pad.

If it gets scratched

  • Light swirl marks sometimes buff out with a finish-safe polishing product (non-abrasive, made for lacquer), but test underneath first.
  • Deep scratches: best handled by a finisher (spot repair is possible but technique-sensitive).
